Apotypoma

Apotypoma is a 60 minutes long dancetheater performance created by Christina Mertzani. Christina was inspired by the topic of diversity and the Asia Minor Disaster. Apotypoma is a Production in the framework of the 2022 program, of the institution “All of Greece, One Culture” of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports and had a premiere in Ancient Olympia in Greece.

Apotypoma is a Greek word and means the trace we are leaving behind us but also it can be interpreted as our ID. This exact trace that we all leave behind us in reality is what makes us all totally unique and special. There is nobody else like us.

We all have felt different, at some point in our lives. We have felt that we do not belong or that our value is not recognized by and in social structures like school, family, work, friendships, relationships etc.
We are all unique; and by definition different. This uniqueness often discourages us, whether other times make us feel essentially important. Which are the mechanisms that evoke those feelings and lead to behaviors? Christina the Creator/ Choreographer of “Apotypoma”, is deeply inspired and excited by this topic. It is a situation that we find repeatedly in human history.

“Apotypoma” is dealing with questions on social phobia, social stigma, shyness, the need to be accepted and the need of belonging to a group / community which can lead most of us at times to be afraid of being “different”. In Apotypoma you can see the consequences: fear of expressing our views against others, fear of challenging someone who is considered greater, fear of behaving in another way, fear of expressing feelings, behaviors, fear of being marginalized.
